Computer vision is probably a very interesting topic for most people looking at all the fascinating stuff that it can do. Looking at the examples from http://hof.povray.org/ it is really amazing that all the pictures looks almost like real that it is really difficult to figure out if it is a real picture. From the seminar, we learn about laws of motion and Einstein’s theory of relativity, something that we learnt years ago but may have clean forgotten about it.
Ray tracing is a pretty interesting topic in this seminar as we get a rough idea of how camera works, its pros which is realistic and cons which is very slow. We also learn about how rendering farm is used to overcome its con of being slow. Another pretty interesting part is the bridge video done by SOC students which shows us the bridge in SOC collapsing which is a very well done video.
A very good example from this seminar is how to derive the eyes from the image of a man wearing shades, and it is quite surprising to know that it can actually be done. We learnt that it is done using statistical correlation between parts of the faces which is like some sort of guessing game.
The computational photography is also another topic that catches our attention. Looking at the rain removal videos and with some explanation from Dr. Terrence, we gets a clearer picture of how it is done which involves borrowing from other pixel with no rain.
To sum up, thumbs up for this seminar :)
